Description of the piece:
A live concert & architectural light extravaganza that challenges the very parameters of circus performance itself.
A two-hour duet-durational-performance that invites audiences to come on a visceral journey with Hazel Lam and her collaborators using light & sound design and the human body to explore the 'Light Vessel' – ‘a boat glowing in the dark’ made from LED strips built into a free-standing structure.
The 'vessel' of the title is a symbolic structure containing the bodies, their world and the light. Collaborating with a preselected local dancer with a contrasting physicality to Hazel’s, the two performers meet bodily in the boat for the first time and the narrative unfolds in real-time.
Interrogating and playing with the narrative and expectation of ‘circus’, this is a relaxed performance where the audience can enter and leave throughout.
